DOODLEBUG SUMMER DVD

A fascinating WWII series that tells
the story of the testing months of 1943-44.

WITH OPTIONAL SUBTITLES

A Peter Williams Television Production, produced and directed by Peter Williams.
Running time: 140 minutes.

This six-part series recalls the period when the V1s and V2s were launched on the UK. The idea of a film was first mooted by Squadron Leader H. E. Bates in a secret document to the War Office on June 6th 1945. H. E. Bates CBE, of course, went on to write The Darling Buds of May, Love for Lydia and much more.  The V1s and V2s were Hitler’s last throw of the dice in World War II. This is the story of those testing months for the exhausted civilian  population of Britain.

SIX FASCINATING EPISODES:
VENGEANCE… The creation of the V1 flying bombs at Peenemünde.
LIKE A THUNDERCLAP  The first V1 lands on June 12th 1944; 500 launched by June 17th.
UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS Britain’s air defences strive to attack the V1s before they can reach London.
BREAKING POINT The height of the battle. Hundreds of casualties; low morale; survivors tell their tragic stories. Churchill says: “We will never be conquered”.
FLYING GAS MAINS 160 die when Woolworths in New Cross London is hit.
A CLOSE-RUN THING  The Allies rush to capture Germany’s launch sites after D-Day.
