Two brothers work in the garage of their disabled father. Johnny works hard and takes care of his father while Ted is a drunk and a womaniser. The two have a strained relationship, which deteriorates further when Ted introduces his girlfriend, beautiful nightclub singer Lucky, to Johnny. Family life becomes more complicated when police search for the unknown killer of a man involved in a dance hall fight. Meanwhile, a bookie is putting pressure on Ted to pay his gambling debts. Atmospheric scenes of London life with buses, dance halls, old-fashioned petrol pumps and vintage vehicles.
