It was an honour for us to host An Afternoon with Susan Hampshire recently, and fascinating to hear about her life and experiences. In this book, Susan describes how her family helped her, how she learnt to deal with scripts and auditions, and, above all, how she learnt to deal with dyslexia. The learning difficulty that turns ordinary sentences into meaningless tangles of jumbled letters has always been part of Susan Hampshire’s life. No one who has seen her many performances, including such productions as The Forsyte Saga, The Pallisers and The Barchester Chronicles, would believe that she suffers from dyslexia.
