Dame CLEO LAINE, DBE, is one of Britain’s most versatile singers, comfortable in almost any musical genre and the only female vocalist to receive Grammy nominations in Jazz, Popular and Classical music. Famous for her scat singing and vocal range, natural contralto Cleo can produce a G above high C, giving her a span of four octaves. This compilation traces the early years of her career, beginning with her work as an uncredited ensemble vocalist in The Johnny Dankworth Seven, through to her emergence as a major solo star at the turn of the 60s, when she recorded You’ll Answer To Me. This compilation is drawn from fourteen singles, five EPs and six LPs. Many of these tracks are hard to find elsewhere on CD.
