Lt Walter Cole first brought ‘Electric Animated Photos’ to the Pier Pavilion on Worthing Pier in 1896.
Nicholas Lyndhurst’s grandfather, Francis Lyndhurst, built an innovative and very expensive glass studio on Shoreham beach in 1914.
London stage stars moved to Shoreham and became film stars.
Thomas Hardy contributed to the adaptation of The Mayor of Casterbridge, the first full length adaptation of one of his novels, in 1921.
Hours of work from hundreds of people were required for planning, filming, set building, costume making, ‘hand cranking’, acting, editing, distributing and then
promoting a film.
