Trains That Changed The World DVD

1 Disc. Colour. Running Time: 3hrs.

24th February 2023 is the 100th anniversary of the FLYING SCOTSMAN. It was built in 1923 at Doncaster Works and displayed at the British Empire Exhibition.  It was named Flying Scotsman after the daily London to Edinburgh rail service. In 1934, Scotsman clocked 100mph – the first locomotive in the UK to reach that speed. It has played an integral part in British history ever since.

Divided into four episodes focusing on Speed, Cities, Industry and Leisure, this DVD features Flying Scotsman, Mallard, Stephenson’s Rocket, the London Underground, Pullman Trains & the Great Western Railway among many iconic trains and railways that changed history. Beginning with Flying Scotsman, which is still running today, owned by the National Railway Museum, the series discusses the trains that shrank distance and created a global economy. Each episode features iconic trains and describes their impact on history, combining archive footage and interviews with leading actors, directors and historians.
