In this 5-CD Talking Book set, Maurice Denham plays the French detective Maigret and Michael Gough plays his creator Georges Simenon in five classic radio adaptations. Parisian detective Maigret first appeared in print in 1931, featuring in 76 novels and 28 short stories. Author Georges Simenon published nearly 500 novels and numerous short works, but is best known as the creator of the fictional detective Jules Maigret. Born in Belgium in 1903, Simenon moved to Paris in 1922. Maigret continued to appear in Simenon’s work until 1972.
Maigret and Simenon look back at five of the most memorable cases in this audio disc set. In Maigret Goes Home, an anonymous letter sends the detective back to the village where he grew up, to try to prevent a crime being committed. In Maigret in Montmartre, he investigates the murders of a countess and a showgirl, discovering a dark secret that links their past lives at the Grand Hotel. Maigret Has Scruples finds the detective bemused by a mild-mannered toy salesman who thinks his wife is trying to kill him. Maigret finds himself investigating the apparently pointless assassination of an ex-diplomat in Maigret in Society and he is summoned to Montmartre to capture a serial killer who
attacks dark-haired women in Maigret Sets a Trap.
The Maigret novels were translated into all major languages and many of them were made into films, radio plays & TV series. According to UNESCO, he is the seventeenth most translated author in the world.
