Sounds of the 60’s 5 DVD Set
Over four hours of some of the biggest hits of the 60’s!
This fabulous box set contains five DVDs featuring studio footage of performances by some of the greatest bands of the 1960s. Relive the era through watching this compilation of TV show clips, (including Ready, Steady, Go), with audience dancing and groovy fashions.
Highlights include a teenage Lulu confidently performing at the beginning of her career, Cilla Black with a lovely rendition of You’re My World; Sandy Shaw with her second hit, Long Live Love, and The Kinks in a brilliant early appearance – when Ray Davies roars You’ve Really Got Me and sings the satirical Well-Respected Man, their place at the head of the British pop movement is established. Paul Jones leads Manfred Mann in their early hits, a very young Cat Stevens shows his talent, Gerry & the Pacemakers perform their anthem, Ferry Cross the Mersey and Steve Marriott fronts the Small Faces with his unique voice. The musical revolution that was Motown is also covered – watch Gladys Knight & the Pips perform an upbeat version of I Heard it Through the Grapevine a year before Marvin Gaye had a No1 hit with it, while he sings Ain’t That Peculiar, (with audience participation), and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles perform Tears of a Clown. The main focus, however, is on the early British music scene, which led the world at the time. Information rolls across the screen with details about the performers. Finally, the music moves towards the epics of the late 60s, with Procul Harum’s Whiter Shade of Pale and
Steppenwolf’s Born to be Wild. A great find for music aficionados.
