The Plaza presents
The Mighty Compton Organ Music CD
15 Tracks on 1 CD
Evoke the atmosphere of the opulent Art Deco era with this wonderful CD of 15 melodies played on the STOCKPORT PLAZA COMPTON ORGAN by Ian Gough, Michael Holmes,
Charles Brown and Anthony Brookes.
The Stockport Plaza Super Cinema and Variety Theatre is the venue where we are proud to stage our Renown/Talking Pictures Autumn Film Festivals. It is an award-winning example of the finest 1932 Art Deco architecture, which has been painstakingly restored. Walking into the main auditorium is a breathtaking experience, with the sweep of upholstered seating, the intricate plasterwork decorating the walls and ceiling and the main stage with the grand spectacle of the Compton Organ taking pride of place. ‘Picture palace’ was the perfect name for the film theatres of the 20s and 30s and this is a supreme example. Like so many venues across the country, the Plaza is currently closed due to COVID restrictions. As a registered charity, it urgently requires support. All profits are retained to protect, preserve and promote the Plaza as an outstanding example of 1930’s architecture. It is part of our cinema heritage and worth preserving.
Every copy of this CD purchased will help to keep this heritage alive.
