BOP IN BRITAIN VOL. 1: THE LEARNING CURVE
25 TRACKS ON 1 CD
Featuring Ralph Sharon Sextet, Johnny Dankworth Seven, Steve Race Bop Group, Tommy Whittle Quartet & Septet – boppin’ fantastic! The new changes in jazz improvisation in America, coming under the somewhat unedifying nomenclature of bebop, permeated rather slowly into the British jazz scene during the mid 1940s, partly because most of the more jazz-influenced big bands of the time were wary of its potential and longevity. Equally though was the telling fact that in those days American jazz groups working in Britain and vice-versa, was unheard of, due to the counter-productive blockage on the exchange of British and American musicians by their respective Unions.
